What are implant- retained dentures?
Quick answer
What are implant-retained dentures and how do they work?
Implant-retained dentures (often called snap-in or overdentures) clip securely onto two to four dental implants placed in your jawbone.
Unlike conventional acrylic dentures that rely on suction or adhesive, they stay firmly anchored while eating and speaking. At York House Dental Practice in West Byfleet, implant-retained dentures start from £2,500. Free consultations are available.
What you need to know
Lower dentures are notorious for floating and rubbing because the ridge is small and the tongue constantly dislodges the plastic. By placing just two titanium implants in the lower jaw fitted with precision locator studs, the denture clicks into position with firm retention.
Because the implants anchor the prosthesis, upper implant overdentures can often be designed with a horseshoe palate, leaving the roof of your mouth uncovered so you can taste food properly and speak without bulky acrylic.
Treatment begins with an in-house CBCT 3D scan (from £125) to map bone density. Once the implants integrate over two to three months, your custom denture is fitted with durable snap-in clips that can be easily removed for daily hygiene cleaning.
