Options to replace a missing tooth

Quick answer

What are the options to replace a missing tooth?

There are three main options: a dental implant (from £2,500 including the crown), a bridge (from £750 per unit) or a denture (from £695).

At York House Dental Practice in West Byfleet, the right choice depends on the health of the neighbouring teeth, your jawbone, your budget and whether you want something fixed or removable. We explain all three honestly before you decide.

What you need to know

An implant replaces the root as well as the tooth, stands alone without touching neighbouring teeth, and helps preserve the jawbone. It takes a few months to complete and needs enough bone, or a graft.

A bridge is fixed to the teeth either side of the gap. It is quicker than an implant and a good choice when those teeth already need crowns, but it involves preparing them. A denture is removable and the most affordable, especially when several teeth are missing.

Leaving a gap can let neighbouring teeth tip and the opposite tooth over-erupt, changing your bite. See implant vs bridge, dental implants, bridges and dentures.
