What to do with a toothache
Toothache is a warning, not a personality test. Waiting until Friday night usually makes the weekend worse. We keep emergency slots for toothache, broken teeth and swelling.
Over-the-counter pain relief can take the edge off if it is safe for you — follow the label and your pharmacist if you are unsure. Salt-water rinses can comfort sore gums. Clove oil and heat packs on a swollen face are not a treatment plan.
If your face is swelling, you have a fever, or swallowing is hard, treat that as urgent. Call us, NHS 111, or A&E according to how unwell you feel. An emergency dentist can drain infection and start antibiotics when they are actually indicated — they are not a default for every ache.
