Is a dental membership plan worth it?

Quick answer

Is a dental payment plan worth it?

For most people who attend regularly, yes — but mainly for what sits on top of routine care.

At York House Dental Practice in West Byfleet, the Essential plan (£22.99 a month) covers two examinations, two hygiene visits and routine X-rays; Enhanced (£33.95) adds two more hygiene visits and priority booking. Both include emergency appointments, 10% off non-specialist treatment, worldwide dental emergency cover, and free check-ups for children under 16.

What you need to know

The honest maths: two examinations (£52 each) and two 30-minute hygiene visits (£77 each) cost £258 a year if you pay as you go. Essential is £275.88 a year. So routine care alone is roughly break-even. The value comes from X-rays being included, emergency appointments, the treatment discount and children’s check-ups.

Enhanced suits patients who need three-monthly hygiene — gum disease, implants, orthodontic appliances or heavy staining. Four hygiene visits alone would cost £308 a year before examinations.

Plans are rolling monthly with 30 days’ notice, and unused visits do not carry over. The discount does not apply to specialist treatment such as implants or orthodontics. Full detail is on the membership page; see also how often to see a hygienist.
